The word muslim is an Arabic word. It means someone who submits to the will of Allah(s.w.a) thru the religion that He(s.w.a) has chosen for mankind, which is Islam. That is what the word means. So if you put that word in the title, then the show should be reflective of that word, otherwise you are deceiving people as to what the show actually is.
So if you have people who are calling themselves '...American Muslims' and yet openly disregarding the clear teaching of Islam (like hijab, not drinking alcohol, not purchasing alcohol, not getting tattoos, not engaging in corrupt activities) and not asking for forgiveness from Allah(s.w.a) for this and not clarifying to the viewers (most of who are ignorant of the ordinances of Islam) that they are not following their religion with regard to these activities, then you have no right to represent yourself as an 'American Muslim' and confuse people as to what Islam actually is. BTW, I came to America in an very young age, but I would never call myself an 'American Muslim' rather I call myself a 'Muslim American' because I am Muslim first and foremost.
If they named the show 'American Arabs' or 'Americans who's parents came from Lebanon' or some other title then I dont' think anyone would have a problem with it. Then if you wanted to watch Arabic people who live in Dearborn, you could do that. They put 'muslim' in the title because there is a huge amount of interest in Islam and muslims in this country and not much interest in Arabic culture (no offense to anyone). So it is a marketing gimic but it misrepresents muslims and that is why people are commenting.
